The Department of Roads and Transportation will increase surveillance of charter-type tourist buses to prevent them from circulating in Mazatlán and transporting passengers to different points in the city. Their sole purpose is to take visitors to their hotels and then proceed to a designated parking area.
Delegate Juan de Dios Mendoza reported that this operation is being carried out in coordination with the Municipal Police, Municipal Transit Authority, and the Hotel Association, in order to enforce regulations and prevent these vehicles from contributing to traffic congestion.
“Tourist buses will not be allowed to take all 40 passengers to the Aquarium, the Lighthouse, or any other attraction. They arrive at the hotel, have 15 to 20 minutes to disembark the passengers, and then must proceed to a designated parking area, such as those we have at the Aquarium, the CUM (University Cultural Center), and some supermarkets with which we have agreements,” he explained.
He added that operators will not be allowed to remain parked or drive around the city while waiting for tourists, as they must keep their vehicles safe until their return.
He noted that there will be exceptions for groups attending conferences, sporting, cultural, or academic events, in which case they will be allowed to transport passengers between the hotel and the event venue.
