Mazatlán welcomed its 105th and 106th cruise ships of the year this Wednesday with the arrival of the Norwegian Jade and Carnival Panorama.
In a press release, it was reported that the Secretary of Tourism for Sinaloa, Mireya Sosa Osuna, toured the port terminal, where she spoke with transportation and tour operators and welcomed the international visitors.
The Norwegian Jade arrived from Puerto Vallarta with 2,112 passengers and 1,022 crew members; while the Carnival Panorama, also from Puerto Vallarta, arrived with 4,207 passengers and 1,411 crew members.
The state official noted that Mazatlán is currently experiencing its peak season for cruise ship arrivals. Four more cruise ships are scheduled to arrive this week, on December 11, 13, and 14.
In total, 21 international ships will have visited the port in the last month of the year. As of December 10th, over 385,000 visitors have been recorded, generating an economic impact exceeding 600 million pesos.
Cruise ship passengers not only significantly boost the economy of Mazatlán, but also that of the surrounding rural areas, as they take excursions to communities near the port, such as La Noria, El Quelite, Copala, and Concordia, where they learn about their history, cuisine, customs, and traditions.
In Mazatlán, they stroll along the Malecón (boardwalk), Plazuela Machado, and the Golden Zone, as well as visit iconic landmarks like the Cliff Diver, the Pino Suárez Market, the Cathedral, and attractions such as the Aquarium, the National Whale Museum, and the Pirate Mansion Museum, among others.
Tour operators expressed satisfaction with the demand for their services this cruise season. “This season we have had a very good presence of tourists, cruise ship passengers who have already visited us, we are very happy about that,” said Tony, who has 29 years of experience and is a certified tour guide in the state.
