The National Aquaculture and Fisheries Commission (Conapesca) and the Government of Sinaloa signed a collaboration agreement that will benefit more than 32,500 fishermen and fish farmers in the state, representing an investment of 122.2 million pesos (50 percent contributed by the Federal government and 50 percent by the state government).
The agency, which reports to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (Sader), announced that this agreement will provide the federal Bienpesca program supplement, with financial support of 3,750 pesos to each eligible beneficiary in the state.
It indicated that this funding is in addition to the 7,500 pesos that the Mexican government deposited last February to all Bienpesca beneficiaries nationwide.
Conapesca’s National Commissioner, Rigoberto Salgado, stated that this agreement aims to strengthen food sovereignty. “What unites us is our commitment to bringing well-being and prosperity to fishermen throughout the country, and in this case, to those in Sinaloa.”
The Secretary of Fisheries and Aquaculture of Sinaloa, Flor Emilia Guerra, pointed out that “the more than 32,000 people, men and women, are not only coastal fishermen, but also inland fishermen, aquaculture farmers, and the crews of larger vessels who also benefit from this.”
