Thanks to the swift intervention of members of the Aquatic Rescue Squad, they managed to rescue four people who were swept away by the waves while taking a swimming lesson at Playa Norte, in front of the Faculty of Marine Sciences (Facimar).

The commander of this lifeguard group, Gustavo Espinoza Bastidas, explained that after receiving a report that swimmers were at risk in the sea, aid and rescue protocols were activated. Members from nearby areas approached the scene and, with the help of a jet ski, brought the individuals to shore where they received medical evaluation, without requiring transfer to a hospital.

He reported that the individuals rescued were identified as Carlos, Andrés, Jesús, and Efraín, aged 18, 23, 20, and 48, respectively, who only suffered from fatigue and a nervous breakdown. These individuals were extracted from a distance of more than 200 meters offshore.

The captain urged beachgoers to heed lifeguard recommendations and respect the flags posted along the beach areas, in order to avoid dangerous situations like the one that occurred at Playa Norte.
