The federal security cabinet confirmed that homicides in Sinaloa decreased by 18.4 percent in the last month, with the highest number in Culiacán, and the perception of insecurity in areas such as Mazatlán decreased by 10 percent. It also announced that 100 patrol cars will be sent in the coming days to reinforce the State Police. Governor Rubén Rocha expressed his gratitude for the federal government’s support and stated that he sees “great hope” for pacifying the state.

The figures were reported this Sunday from Culiacán by members of the federal security cabinet during their second biweekly visit to oversee the security strategy they have deployed in the state since October of last year, when violence erupted due to the drug war between Los Chapitos and Los Mayos, factions of the Sinaloa cartel.

In a meeting with the National Chamber of the Radio and Television Industry (CIRT), Omar García Harfuch, head of the Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection (SSCP), reported that in the last 15 days alone, since the last time the security cabinet was in Sinaloa, federal and state institutions have arrested 65 people, seized 116 firearms, more than 24,000 live rounds of ammunition, 615 magazines, nearly 10 tons of drugs, and dismantled nine methamphetamine production laboratories.

According to a statement from the SSCP, the secretary stated that “the results translate into hundreds of millions of pesos in damage to criminal organizations.” He also indicated that the strategy is comprehensive and is also working with local authorities to rebuild the social fabric. In this context, he announced that 100 new patrol cars for the State Police will soon arrive in Sinaloa, and that vehicle theft will be combated.

At the event, the commander of the Third Military Region of the Ministry of National Defense (Defense), General Guillermo Briseño Lobera, explained that the state has seen a downward trend month over month. When comparing June with last July, “homicides decreased by 18.4 percent, from 202 to 173, and in Culiacán, they decreased from 139 homicides to 113.”

He also stated that vehicle theft in the state has decreased from 536 in June to 508, representing a 5.2 percent reduction. In July, he explained, 359 stolen vehicles were recovered, 375 firearms were seized, and explained that methamphetamine seizures increased by 815 kilos.

According to the Secretary of National Defense, General Ricardo Trevilla Trejo, the National Security Strategy is working, as there has also been a 25 percent decrease in intentional homicides nationwide, and all high-impact crimes are on the decline.

Meanwhile, the Secretary of the Navy, Admiral Raymundo Pedro Morales, stated that “insecurity has been reduced by 10 percent in Mazatlán, and 2,800 kilos of cocaine have been seized at sea.” He explained that there are currently more than 3,000 naval personnel with 157 vehicles and three helicopters throughout the coastal area of Sinaloa, from Topolobampo to Teacapán, and surveillance has been expanded to Navolato, Elota, Altata, and Costa Rica.

In this regard, the governor of Sinaloa, Rubén Rocha, stated, “There is great hope for the President’s support through the security cabinet, with the Army, Navy, National Guard, the Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection, and the state and municipal police; there is great coordination.”

In his address, the president of the Sinaloa delegation of the CIRT, Roque Mascareño, mentioned that the media are more than just news transmitters; they are the bridge between the government and the people. They also understand the feelings of the population. “In us, you have allies of character, not those who only applaud, but those who build,” he emphasized.

De acuerdo con un comunicado de la SSPC, el secretario, Omar García Harfuch, afirmó que “los resultados se traducen en una afectación de cientos de millones de pesos para las organizaciones criminales”.
