The state Secretariat of Fisheries and Aquaculture intensified operations against illegal fishing, seizing illegal fishing gear, vessels, and closed species.

Flor Emilia Guerra Mena, head of the agency, reported that personnel seized 13 fishing nets, 20 seine nets, 721 crab traps, two boats, an outboard motor, and more than 60 kilos of shrimp and fish.

“We monitor those who have already received a warning; if there are repeat offenders, we can even seize the motor; otherwise, only the fishing gear,” Guerra Mena stated.

These actions are part of the inspection and surveillance program that remains active in different parts of the state.

The official explained that when improper use of fishing gear without any caught product is detected, only the gear is seized. However, if closed species are transported, administrative reports are issued and more severe sanctions are applied.
