Insecurity Impacts Tourism in Mazatlán: Vacation Rentals Drop by 50%

Insecurity in Mazatlán has led to a 50% decrease in vacation rentals, according to Oscar Tirado Bernal, secretary of the Mexican Association of Real Estate Professionals in Mazatlán (AMPI).

While the sale of apartments has not been significantly affected and continues, there have been some delays in signing documents. Investments in the real estate sector are still ongoing, although not at the same level as before the insecurity began three months ago.

Despite the roads being safe and no recent incidents reported, tourists have been hesitant to visit Mazatlán. This has resulted in cancellations of rentals, negatively impacting the sector. There is hope that road security will be maintained and that apartment rentals will improve by the end of the year.

Many people were initially afraid to visit Mazatlán, leading to numerous reservations being canceled as violent incidents occurred. Although tourists have been informed that it is safe to travel to Mazatlán, they remain cautious about traveling on the roads.

Reservations for the end of the year have been made, and so far, there have been no cancellations. The promotion of Mazatlán to northern states continues, with the hope that tourism will return.

Óscar Tirado Bernal explained that while some projects maintain a sales level of up to four units, most have fallen to only two. Despite the challenges, the sector continues to work daily to keep real estate sales and rentals active.
