The plan to reinforce the presence of security corporations in Sinaloa will intensify the use of intelligence, in accordance with the National Security Strategy, said President Claudia Sheinbaum. In addition, the Secretary of National Defense, Ricardo Trevilla, was in several areas of Culiacán, even talking with citizens. There is a very important detachment of the National Guard.
She insisted that the war against drug trafficking that was undertaken during the Felipe Calderón administration will not be resumed, because when one speaks of war it is equivalent to a license to kill. In contrast, she said that the security policy in this administration is based on respecting the rule of law and the protection of human rights. There will also be no collusion between the authorities in charge of security with the heads of organized crime gangs, as occurred with Calderón, she assured.
Sheinbaum declined to set deadlines for beginning to see results from the strategy, but guaranteed that it will work, because in addition to the use of intelligence and research, social programs will be strengthened, which is equivalent to greater attention to the causes of violence.
In her conference, she said that with the visit of Trevilla and Omar García Harfuch, Secretary of Security and Citizen Protection, the actions that the federal government has undertaken were verified and, if necessary, the operation of the National Guard itself will be modified based on what they were able to visualize.
She said that, as in Sinaloa, action will be taken in Baja California to confront violence, which is why this Wednesday Governor Marina del Pilar Ávila participated in the meeting of the security cabinet at the National Palace. In this case, the presence and actions will be strengthened, especially in Tijuana, which is where the highest number of homicides in the state are concentrated.
Federal strategy to be implemented in Sonora
Federal and Sonoran authorities agreed yesterday on a coordination route to implement in municipalities of that state the Interinstitutional Security Strategy presented a day earlier by President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo.
The agreement was made after a meeting at the government palace of Sonora headed by the state governor, Alfonso Durazo Montaño, with Omar García Harfuch and the Secretary of the Navy, Admiral Raymundo Pedro Morales Ángeles.
Civil and naval authorities who are part of the Interinstitutional Security Strategy instructed by Sheinbaum also participated.
This meeting had the purpose of carrying out the necessary coordination for the implementation of the aforementioned security strategy, which will be executed by an interinstitutional task force in the municipalities of Cajeme, Guaymas and Hermosillo, Sonora, it was reported in a joint statement by federal and state authorities.
Sheinbaum’s strategy seeks to improve coordination between members of the security cabinet and the state government to reduce insecurity and high-impact crimes and neutralize the generators of violence.
With these actions, the government of Mexico and the state of Sonora reiterate their commitment to the citizens to ensure the integrity of Sonoran families, the bulletin concludes.
