Security in the tourist and beach area was increased by elements of the National Guard and the municipal police of Mazatlán, to avoid a repeat of acts of violence, such as those experienced last Saturday, in which a tourist originally from Los Angeles, California, Alexis “N” aged 21 was shot to death.

In the attack, a sister of the victim, named Karen “N”, aged 28, resident of the United States, was injured, so she had to be admitted to a hospital to receive medical assistance.

Othoniel Barrón Valdez, Secretary of Public Security of the port indicated that since the beaches are a federal zone, it is the responsibility of the National Guard to monitor, the police only act at the request of the corresponding authority, as happened during the attack that was reported by the emergency lines.

Regarding the events, he indicated that since it is part of the investigation file that the State Attorney General’s Office is currently carrying out, secrecy must be maintained regarding the progress made in this case, where a foreign visitor lost his life.

The mayor of Mazatlán, Edgar González Zatarain, commented that due to the way in which the events occurred on one of the beaches, it is presumed that it could be some kind of revenge, without this implying a risk that a Warning will be imposed on the port.

He specified that this act of violence that occurred undoubtedly altered the attractive atmosphere that the beaches of the port have, however, he ruled out that it could have a greater impact, since it is not about confrontations as occurred in the past.
