Fresh, colorful and delicious ceviches are what Mazatlan residents look for and prefer. In the center of the city, a semi-permanent stand attracts dozens of people who come from distant neighborhoods, but also tourists from all over the country, who in search of gastronomic delights come to José María Canizales Street, a few steps from the Cathedral.

For 25 years, Yolanda del Carmen Gallardo Gallegos has prepared a variety of shrimp, sierra and cochito ceviches in different presentations; she said that her business is a family tradition, which comes from her parents, who taught her to prepare them.

In addition, she mentioned that her activity gave her the possibility of sending her children to school and preparing themselves in what they have decided.

“I have been working here for 25 years. I have sierra ceviche with carrot, shrimp ceviche, sierra with vegetables, and cochito too. They all sell. It is a family business. I gave my children an education from here. I come from the fact that my mother also sold ceviche; my parents taught me.”

Yolanda del Carmen also said that her ceviches are bought by people from the north, center and south of Sinaloa, but she also has clients who visit her to try her product from different cities in the country and many times the flavor of Mazatlan ceviche is even taken to the neighboring country to the north.

“I have a lot of clients from Culiacán, from Torreón, from many of the cities here in Mexico, and sometimes they also take it to the United States, because everything is of quality and everything is brand new.”

If you want to try this variety of ceviches with a great family and Mazatlan tradition, Mrs. Yolanda has her stand on José María Canizales street, outside of a well-known telephone company, from 1 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., Monday to Saturday.

On the sidewalk or to take away, you can enjoy ceviche in hard form, on toast, with churros, but you can also find flavored water, sweets and soft drinks. The hard form with ceviche costs 25 pesos, but you can also buy it in half a liter or in a small glass.
