The Mazatlán Aquatic Police alerted bathers and smaller vessels and tourist service boats about the presence of the swell phenomenon, which occurs due to strong gusts of wind that cause very high waves and currents that can drag visitors entering the sea.
On various beaches of the port, flags of different colors were placed again to warn visitors about the degree of risk involved in entering the sea, since Tuesday afternoon, given that there are waves of up to eight feet high.
With special equipment, the Aquatic Police began continuous patrols of the beach area to ensure that the provisions are followed and visited the docks of the bay’s tourist trips to notify them about the measures that have been arranged.
The captaincy of the port of Mazatlán notified that the behavior of this swell phenomenon is being monitored, with which there are waves of six to eight feet high, which represents a risk for the stability of smaller boats and for bathers.
In the days prior to the observation of the solar eclipse, last Monday, April 8, the Aquatic Police reported the rescue of twelve national and foreign visitors who were being pulled down by the currents and, despite their efforts, could not reach land. Municipal authorities revealed that among the tourists who were rescued were Oliwier “N”, fourteen years old, from Poland, and Dima “N”, 31 years old, from Ukraine, who did not require medical assistance.
