MAZATLAN. – Mazatlán is in long tablecloth with the visit of 5 members of the Virtual Institute for Solar System Research (SSERVI NASA) that operates within the AMES Research Center in California. Team that came with the intention of getting to know a little more about the destination that will be privileged with the total solar eclipse that will take place on April 8 of next year.
For NASA, our port is a site that will be very important for the phenomenon, not only because it can be seen in its entirety, but because it will be the first place to be seen (where the Moon will completely cover the Sun).
The total eclipse will last about 4 minutes and 20 seconds starting at 11:07 in the morning. A grayish darkness will fall over the city. This will only be visible along a narrow strip that runs from Estación Dimas to Acaponeta Nayarit and is about 200 kilometers wide.
Kristina Gibbs and Gregory Schmidt will be the scientists in charge of carrying out the documentation and recording of the eclipse. It is important to mention that the aforementioned NASA scientists will be accompanied by Mario Arreola Santander from the Mexican Space Agency, which is in charge of directing all space issues in the Mexican Republic.
According to Schmidt, on April 8, a larger group of scientists will come to Mazatlán because this will be the first point on the American continent where the eclipse will be visible; Then the shadow will continue its path through the states of Durango, Coahuila and the east coast of the United States and Canada.
Together with city council authorities, they will form a working committee that includes all areas, because Mazatlán is expected to become the capital of astronomy and register visits from people from all over the world.
NASA will transmit
NASA plans to make a broadcast for the entire world on its official channels, but it will also collaborate with public events through the installation of telescopes in different parts of Mazatlán.

As a thank you and for the collaborative work that the Astronomical Society of Mazatlán will have with NASA equipment, the scientific division gave SAMAZ a lunar rock that can be admired by all those who love and are passionate about astronomy.
