Mazatlán, Sinaloa.- If necessary, the Mazatlán Carnival will be suspended, said the mayor, Luis Guillermo Benítez Torres.

Questioned after going to pay his property tax, on the announcement of the Secretary of HealthHéctor Melesio Cuen Ojeda, that if the cases of Covid-19 infections in Mazatlán continue to advance, the celebration of Carnival could be canceled, the municipal president indicated that it does not take care that no one threatens, because they are aware and responsible for the current situation.

“We know when yes and when no, today I read in the news that the Carnival of Rio de Janeiro is canceled, which is the most important, if necessary and this continues the same, because we will do the same, but it is not threats, it is talk to each other, for the good of the city … we are going to value it, because Carnival cannot be thrown away, maybe it won’t be canceled, maybe it will be postponed to other dates, when conditions are better, but I want to repeat, no it is about threatening, we are responsible people, we love the Mazatlan people and we fight for health, without forgetting economics, “he said.

Mayor Benítez Torres assured that if it is necessary to suspend it, it will be done, and recalled that it was already done once with excellent results, so, if necessary, the decision will be made without the need for other people to tell them because they are very aware of the situation.

He stressed that they are well ahead with the Carnival preparations, advances have already been given to the artists, who do not move if they do not give them their advance, in addition to the purchase commitments for the event.

The first mayor said that he saw the number of infections in the city, which closed on Tuesday with 103 cases, but stressed that the number of deaths does not move, so he called to be clear, in addition to that people must learn to live with the reality that Covid-19 represents, so more care must be taken, especially complying with the protocols.
