So-called “narco-submarines” transporting thousands of kilograms of drugs along the Pacific Ocean were intercepted by U.S. investigators and the men involved in the scheme are heading to prison.

The plan involved self-propelled semi-submersible submarines that were traveling from Colombia into the Pacific Ocean. U.S. Prosecutors said the vessels were heading to the Sinaloa Cartel members in Mexico.

However, U.S. officials stopped three of the vessels that were en route. In total, the subs carried 19,000 kilograms – about 42,000 pounds – of cocaine.

Investigators say a large amount of the drugs was eventually going to make its way to the states.

Now, various members of the scheme have pleaded guilty in federal court in connection to the scheme, including the boss of the operation. Prosecutors said the suspects’ jobs ranged from helping to build the vessels to overseeing security at the construction sites.

The following people have pleaded guilty to charges related to the scheme and they face years in prison:

Fernando Pineda-Jimenez, the operation’s boss, — faces between 10 years and life in prison.

Adrian Luna-Munoz— faces between 10 years and life in prison.

Yesid Eduardo Torres-Solis— faces between 10 years and life in prison.
