Homicide of Frank Aguilar will impact tourism say, Hoteliers

Remains of Missing LAFD Firefighter Frank Aguilar Found in Mexico

It will affect the perception of insecurity and the image of Rosarito since the very safety of the tourist is put into question

Rosarito Beaches.- The location of the corpse of the American Frank Aguilar, in Corredor 2000, will impact on the perception of insecurity and image of Rosarito since the very security towards tourists is put into question, said César Rivera, vice president of the Association of Hotels and Motels in the locality.

He said that although the kidnapping of the firefighter occurred in the limits of Rosarito and Tijuana, it affects the destination since the fifth municipality forms part of the coastal corridor along with Ensenada.

He considered that the hotel sector is going through a difficult situation due to the pandemic and the sanitary restrictions that have had to be applied to contain the spread of the virus, which is why only 25% of hotel occupancy is currently registered

Perhaps the good thing, among the bad, he commented, is that two of the allegedly implicated were arrested and justice is expected to be done, but this murder is worrying, considering the amount of contributions that the United States Fire Department makes for the benefit of their counterparts in Rosarito.

For his part, the president of the Business Coordinating Council (CCE) in Rosarito, Rafael Crosthwaite, agreed that the image of this tourist destination will be damaged and could increase the perception of insecurity, especially due to the treatment that has been given to this news in the neighboring country.

He stressed that greater coordination is required from the three levels of government to curb the insecurity that continues to plague Baja California.

The State Attorney General’s Office confirmed the location of the skeletal remains of Aguilar Cornejo, who had been missing since last August 20.

His body was found in an unpopulated area, south of Corredor 2000, in the area of Rosarito.
