Mazatlán, Sinaloa.- For two years, all the roads in Mazatlán must have a mandatory bicycle lane, since that year cyclists have already been recognized within the mobility law, informed Carlos Suárez Gutiérrez, President of the Cycling Committee in Mazatlán.
Asked about the commotion caused by the shared bike path on Camarón Sábalo avenue, the cyclist reported that this road is part of a network of bike paths that have been implemented in the port since 2018.
“The new roads to be built since 2018 will have a bicycle lane … In 2018, in October precisely, we are celebrating two years since the new Mobility Law was enacted, a very advanced law in Sinaloa, which recognizes the cyclists and gives them rights and obligations, “he confirmed.
He said that the Mobility Law marked the limit of the “self-centered” culture, which Suárez Gutiérrez explained was born because Sinaloa is one of the states with the highest use of vehicles in the country for more than 30 years.
“The urban mobility based on the car that has been promoted during the last 30-40 years, is reaching a limit, because no matter how many streets are built, they will not be enough for the lot of cars that circulate,” he said.
“Sinaloa is one of the most motorized entities in the country, we have grown at rates that are double, triple that of other States of the Republic,” he added.
RIGHTS AND OBLIGATIONS
However, just as human-powered vehicles have rights, they also have obligations, declared the president of this cycling organization.
“For example, your obligation is to circulate in the sense of the streets, your obligation is also to circulate without hearing aids,” he explained.
In addition to this, he urged the authorities to carry out an educational campaign on mobility in the port, since there are no information signs or posters that socialize this new legislation.
