90% of visitors arriving in Mazatlán do so by car, but there is still no date for the reopening of hotels.
Mazatlán, Sinaloa (June 16, 2020). Although there is still no date for the restart of operations in hotels in Mazatlán, the Secretary of Tourism, Óscar Pérez Barros, assured that Sinaloa is ready for the reactivation of the tourism sector, but it must be gradual and controlled.
He stressed that regional tourism has always been present in Mazatlán and Sinaloa, and that now it will not be the exception, but the destination must provide a healthy and safe environment for visitors.
He stated that they are still waiting for the situation to improve since responsible decisions have to be made and the activity of the tourism sector must be reactivated in a gradual, orderly, and safe way.
He declared that with the highway connectivity that the state has, as soon as the hotels are open, tourists from Durango, Torreón, Chihuahua, Zacatecas, Nayarit, Jalisco will surely come, and that could be risky for an uptick in coronavirus.
He explained that the conditions of tourist destinations across Mexico are not the same for all, tourism and their mobility in Sinaloa, mainly in Mazatlán, is very different, for example, from Cancun or Los Cabos, where 90% of the tourists arrive by air.
The official recognized that the entire tourism sector is interested in living up to the need of the pandemic, for the benefit of the tourists and service providers alike.
Tourists from Durango, Torreón, Chihuahua, Zacatecas, Nayarit, and Jalisco, are the ones who keep the economy active in the port of Mazatlan during different times of the year, and on this coming reopening, these locations will be targeted with exclusive promotions.
