Mexico City, April 15 (However). In an unprecedented exercise in the country and with the intention of putting downward pressure on prices, the Mexican President and his Energy Secretary, Rocío Nahle, exhibited at the companies that sell more expensive fuels. The majority are foreign.

Andrés Manuel López Obrador has said that if prices do not fall, he is willing to open direct points of sale to consumers to force companies to adjust the price. Yesterday he said that the private ones receive the liter at 16 pesos, but they are selling it above 20. Keeping the prices low was a promise of López Obrador during the 2018 presidential campaign.

President Lopez Obrador detailed this morning that the mechanism is being adjusted to have the information more attached to reality and to be as useful as possible.

He indicated that the CRE had an information system that was suspended in recent days, restarted and is now being updated. He reported that the Profeco is also conducting an information survey at the stations.

There are gas stations that are selling expensive because they are in very remote places, such as the Yesca, Durango,” he explained.

López Obrador said that it is necessary to consider that many service stations are located far away from the distribution centers of Petróleos Mexicanos (Pemex) and exhibited, rather, the corporates that, in spite of being mostly operating in urban areas, prices do not go down Under those conditions are Shell, G500, FullGas, Exxon Mobil, Total, Repson or Walmart.

“The call is fundamentally, in a very special way, to these big distributors to help us and I’m sure they will do it to keep the fuel prices in balance and that we comply with the commitment not to increase the prices of the fuels, “he said.

He said that next week will also add gas prices.

The Director of Pemex, Octavio Romero Oropeza, explained that Pemex is selling 17.90 pesos per liter to service stations. While the inflation ceiling is 19.40, however the top price that is being marketed is 19.52, which is 12 cents above the ceiling, in the case of the magna.

In the case of Premium gasoline, Pemex is selling at 19.32 liter; the inflation ceiling to the public is 21 pesos and gas stations are selling at 20.90, ten cents less than the cap.

In the case of diesel, Pemex is selling at 19.14 per liter, which means 14 cents per debit of the inflation ceiling; gas stations should sell at 20.96 as a cap but sell at 21.29.

On Sunday, President Andrés Manuel López Obrador denounced that gasoline distributors “are abusing” by charging high costs because, he said, the liter of gasoline is delivered at 16 pesos and sold between 19 and 20 pesos.

“We are respecting that the price does not increase, but the one that distributes it, not all, are abusing. They are given to 16 pesos and are selling at 19 and 20 pesos. They are staying with a higher profit margin than before. They are abusing, “the president said from Champoton, Campeche.

The Chief Executive stressed that if even with the exhibition the price increase is not controlled, the Government will create distributors where gasoline and diesel will be sold more cheaply.

Since last April 9, López Obrador today called on private fuel distributors to lower prices and said that every Monday they would show the gasolineros that sell them more expensive.
