The president said that contracts were signed with various companies in the United States and that the result will be the distribution of 116 thousand barrels per day.
President Andrés Manuel López Obrador said Monday that the government signed contracts to acquire 571 fuel trucks at a cost of 85 million dollars.
At a morning press conference, the president said that a mission was made to the United States to acquire the vehicles that will serve to normalize the distribution of fuel.
The acquisition of the fuel trucks, he said, will mean disposing at the end of March of 116 thousand barrels to distribute daily.
“Contracts have already been signed to acquire 571 fuel trucks,” said Obrador. The previous week, the president launched a call to hire 2 thousand pipe drivers who will earn around 14 thousand 500 pesos biweekly.
He also noted that the purchase process was made without any bidding because it was required to act promptly because it is an emergency.
“The decision is made within the framework of the Law, when it comes to an emergency you can proceed to buy immediately the equipment that is required,” he said.
“If a normal tender had been launched, we would have bought the fuel trucks, if it went well, in three months.” Moreover, the request was made to the Canacar and they presented us with a program to give us the pipes starting in March and like you. they will understand this demand for promptness, “he explained.
He said that the vehicles will be safeguarded by the Ministry of Defense after the delivery is made. “The Ministry of Defense organizes the distribution of equipment and will maintain permanent surveillance,” said Obrador.
In the morning press conference of the president, the general director of Petróleos Mexicanos (Pemex), Octavio Romero Oropeza, said that from 2016 to 2019, 80 percent of the clandestine fuel shots were concentrated in seven entities: Hidalgo, Puebla , Guanajuato, Veracruz, Jalisco, State of Mexico and Tamaulipas.
From the first days of January of this year there was a record of fuel depletion, derived from the plan against fuel theft that the Federal Government undertook, which consists of a change in the logistics of Petróleos Mexicanos (Pemex), which includes the closing of pipelines and the distribution by auto-tanks and the surveillance of the pipelines by elements of the Army, Navy and Federal Police.
