On October 14, an individual spent more than 12 hours in the open sea after falling from a fishing vessel southeast of Cabo San Lucas.
Elements of the Navy of Mexico, belonging to the Naval Search, Rescue and Maritime Surveillance Station assigned to the Naval Sector of Cabo San Lucas, carried out the search and rescue of a man, who for more than 12 hours was missing in the open sea after falling from a fishing vessel 48 nautical miles (88 kilometers) approximately southeast of Cabo San Lucas, Baja California Sur.
This action was carried out when an emergency call was received at the Command and Control Center of the Mexican Navy, where it was reported that the fishing vessel “Don Antonio Pérez” activated its satellite alert system, due to the fact that during its voyage to Punta Estrada, they noticed the absence of a person from their crew, for this reason, they issued the alert requesting the support for the search, activating immediately the Regional Search and Rescue System.
In view of this emergency, the departure of an MLB-type rescue vessel belonging to the Naval Search, Rescue and Maritime Surveillance Station (ENSAR) of Los Cabos with rescue personnel was ordered, locating the person approximately 88 kilometres (48 km). nautical miles) southeast of Cabo San Lucas, finding him stable.
The rescued crewman was taken to the facilities of the Naval Sector of Cabo San Lucas, where Naval Health personnel gave him medical attention, to later be transferred to a local hospital.
With these actions, the Secretary of the Navy – Navy of Mexico as a National Maritime Authority, and acting as Coast Guard, reiterates its commitment to citizenship to safeguard human life at sea.
