The 2026 FIFA World Cup could become a major promotional opportunity for Sinaloa. With this goal in mind, the state government presented the strategy “Sinaloa: The World Cup Celebration,” a program that seeks to attract visitors and showcase the state’s rich cultural, gastronomic, and tourist attractions during the most important sporting event on the planet.

Mexico will co-host the 2026 World Cup with the United States and Canada, and although the official venues will be Mexico City, Guadalajara, and Monterrey, Sinaloa authorities hope that the influx of tourists will also benefit other destinations in the country.

What is “Sinaloa: The World Cup Celebration”?

Governor Yeraldine Bonilla Valverde explained that the initiative aims to transform the World Cup fervor into an opportunity to promote the state’s tourist attractions.

“We want this World Cup celebration to reach all of Sinaloa and, at the same time, serve to promote our culture, our history, our gastronomy, and all the attractions that distinguish us,” she stated.

The governor emphasized that tourism is a strategic activity for the state’s economy due to its impact on job creation and the well-being of thousands of families.

The five pillars of the tourism strategy for the 2026 World Cup

The Secretary of Tourism, Mireya Sosa Osuna, reported that the program includes coordinated actions between authorities, businesses, and tourism organizations under five lines of work:

World Cup experience.

Tourism promotion.
Sinaloa gastronomy.
Experiential tourism.

Culture and identity.

The goal is to position Sinaloa as an alternative for visitors arriving in the World Cup host cities who wish to extend their trip through Mexico.

The strategy involves tourism service providers in Mazatlán, Culiacán, Ahome, and the state’s Pueblos Mágicos (Magical Towns), including El Fuerte, Cosalá, Rosario, San Ignacio, and Mocorito.

Hotel associations, restaurant owners, transportation companies, business organizations, airport operators, and cultural groups are also participating, with the aim of strengthening the tourism offerings and generating economic benefits in different regions of the state.

As part of the planned activities, authorities announced the construction of 36 sports fields in the state’s Pueblos Mágicos (Magical Towns) with support from the delegation of Agrarian, Territorial, and Urban Development.

In addition, public broadcasts of some of the Mexican National Team’s matches are planned, including the games against South Africa and South Korea, to promote community engagement and participation during the World Cup.

The governor also invited the people of Sinaloa to support Mexican midfielder Luis Romo, a native of the state and considered one of the stars of the national team.

State authorities believe that Sinaloa’s air and land connectivity will allow it to attract some of the visitors who will arrive in Mexico during the World Cup.

To this end, a special security plan coordinated between municipal, state, and federal agencies will also be implemented to guarantee the safety and protection of tourists in the state’s main tourist destinations.

With this strategy, Sinaloa seeks to leverage the international platform of the 2026 World Cup to strengthen its tourism presence, boost the local economy, and position itself as one of the most attractive destinations in the country.
