Mazatlán welcomed the Brilliant Lady cruise ship, from Virgin Voyages, for the first time this Wednesday.

The vessel arrived at 8:45 a.m. from Los Cabos with 2,478 passengers and 1,167 crew members, reinforcing the destination’s presence on international tourism routes in the Mexican Pacific.

The welcome ceremony was led by municipal, state, and port authorities. Representing the Secretary of Tourism of Sinaloa, Mireya Sosa Osuna, was Celia Jáuregui Ibarra, Undersecretary of Planning, Investment, and Tourism Development for the Ministry of Tourism (Sectur).

The Brilliant Lady is Virgin Voyages’ newest ship. It was launched in 2015 and this year began offering itineraries that include California, the Mexican Riviera, and the Pacific coast.

Virgin Voyages, which has traditionally focused its operations on the U.S. East Coast, began market testing this year on Mexico’s West Coast and Pacific coast, where Mazatlán is emerging as a strategic port of call for this new phase of expansion.

This Wednesday, the cruise ship “Carnival Panorama” also arrived, carrying 4,326 passengers and 1,425 crew members.

With today’s two arrivals, the port has now received a total of 10 cruise ship arrivals in April, with more than 36,000 cruise passengers and an economic impact of over 58 million pesos.

So far this year, 53 cruise ships carrying more than 194,000 tourists have arrived in Mazatlán, generating an economic impact of over 310 million pesos.
