Members of the Municipal Public Security Secretariat’s Aquatic Rescue Squad brought nine Mexican tourists to safety on various beaches in the port.

On this occasion, their places of origin were not specified.

The Squadron’s commander, Gustavo Espinoza Bastidas, reported that the strong waves were the main factor that prompted the activation of rescue protocols on Friday.

After being assisted, the swimmers received basic medical evaluations, which determined that they were only suffering from fatigue and anxiety, and did not require hospitalization.

The rescues took place at Playa Sábalo Dos (twice), Isla de la Piedra, Playa Gaviotas, and Playa Camarón, totaling five interventions related to rip currents.

In another incident, the team responded to a report of a parachute falling on the beach. The parasailer was rescued with the help of a jet ski and taken to shore, where it was confirmed that she was only suffering from anxiety. According to service providers, a mechanical failure caused the incident.

Following the interventions, Espinoza Bastidas instructed personnel to reinforce patrol routes and issue preventative recommendations to visitors in order to avoid future risky situations on Mazatlán’s beaches.
