Revitalizing the Sinaloa State Prosecution: A Call for Change

Mazatlán Mayor Édgar González Zataráin recently emphasized the need for a significant overhaul of the state prosecution in Sinaloa. The current structure and personnel are deemed insufficient to address the pressing issues and time-sensitive cases that require expeditious resolution.

González stressed that the next prosecutor must possess a well-defined profile, with a strong background in investigation and case resolution. This is essential to combat the existing perception of stagnation in the administration of justice.

The mayor highlighted that the prosecution team should not only consist of the head of the department but also include a broader structure that supports efficient investigations. The new prosecutor must lead by example, demonstrating a commitment to uncovering truth and resolving cases promptly.

González’s comments come in light of Sara Bruna’s resignation, and he urged that the next prosecutor be someone with a proven track record of investigating crimes and bringing perpetrators to justice. This is crucial in tackling the long-standing issue of inadequate prosecution and justice administration in Sinaloa. By revamping the prosecution team and ensuring that it has the necessary expertise and resources, González believes that progress can finally be made towards creating a more effective and efficient justice system.
