Mazatlán, in Sinaloa, and Los Cabos, in Baja California Sur, are two paradises in Mexico, with a high flow of foreign tourists.

In the panorama of international tourism in Mexico, two destinations emerge as protagonists in the first two months of 2024: Mazatlán and Los Cabos.

These paradises located on the Mexican coast stand out not only for their natural and cultural beauty but also for their notable attraction to foreign passengers, who arrive through their respective airports.

During the first two months of 2024, these two destinations stood out for their significant flow of foreign passengers. These airports, located in iconic tourist enclaves, have witnessed a significant increase in the mobilization of tourists, consolidating themselves as key points for international tourism in Mexico.

On the other hand, San José del Cabo, located at the southern tip of the Baja California peninsula, has consolidated its position as one of the most popular destinations for international travelers in Mexico.

With at least 2.3 million foreign passengers received in 2023, the San José del Cabo International Airport has demonstrated its appeal to tourists seeking new experiences in the Los Cabos environment.

According to Mexico’s Secretary of Tourism, Miguel Torruco Marqués, by the end of 2023, San José del Cabo was the third Mexican destination with the highest capture of international tourists, evidencing its growing popularity among travelers from around the world.

In the first two months of 2024, this airport ranked fourth with a total of 422,318 foreign passengers, according to data from the Ministry of Tourism, just below Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco.

Mazatlán International Airport in Eighth Place

The port of Mazatlán, located in the state of Sinaloa, experienced a considerable increase in the influx of air passengers during the first month of the year.

According to data provided by the Ministry of Tourism in Sinaloa, air passenger flow registered an increase of 17% in January 2024 compared to the same period of the previous year.

This increase translates into a total of 156,456 passengers mobilized, in contrast to the 133,787 registered in January 2023.

This increase is not limited to domestic travelers but also includes international tourists. The promotional efforts carried out both nationally and internationally have borne fruit, attracting a greater number of foreign visitors to the sunny coasts of Mazatlán.

According to data from the Ministry of Tourism, the Mazatlán International Airport ranks eighth in terms of airports with the highest mobilization of foreign passengers, with a total of 43,547.

Behind the increase in tourism are intense promotional campaigns both nationally and internationally. In the case of Mazatlán, a campaign has been carried out in key markets such as the United States and Canada, which has significantly contributed to the increase in international passenger flow.

In addition, strategic alliances with international airlines have allowed for an increase in the number of available seats, ensuring optimal connectivity during the winter season.

San José del Cabo, for its part, has capitalized on its privileged geographical position and incomparable natural appeal to attract travelers from all over the world. The destination has been able to offer a smooth and convenient travel experience for international passengers, contributing to its sustained growth in the global tourism market.

Future Prospects for the Airports of Mazatlán and Los Cabos

As tourism in Mexico continues to grow, destinations such as Mazatlán and San José del Cabo position themselves as undisputed leaders in the tourism industry.

With a focus on promotion, infrastructure, and enhancing the traveler’s experience, these destinations are poised to continue attracting millions of international tourists in the coming years, thus consolidating their place on the world tourism map.
