Mazatlán, Sinaloa.- Humberto Gamboa Montoya, who reached the rank of second communication sergeant, lost his life in the early hours of this Saturday, December 16, at the age of 104 while receiving medical attention at the military hospital in Mazatlán, Sinaloa.
The retired soldier was one of the members of the legendary 201st Squadron of the Mexican Air Force that actively participated in World War II.
The 201st Air Fighter Squadron assisted the 58th Fighter Group of the 5th United States Air Force (USAAF) in the liberation of Mother Luzon Island, Philippines, in the summer of 1945.
In the last days of his life, the war hero gave an interview to influencer Luisito Time, to whom he gave life advice.
“I took great care of myself, but I have never smoked a cigarette,” the war veteran responded when asked about how to reach his age.
Already at 104 years old, the deceased can be seen in the interview sitting in a comfortable chair and with an oxygen tank behind him, while he explains his mobility difficulties due to a “bad condition” in his legs.
Before concluding the interview, the Mexican hero of World War II revealed his secret to being happy: “You have to be right.”
“The government of Mexico called all the young people from the army, I was 24 years old, my average height was 1.65. My father was a soldier. We were first in Florida Blanca when the squad was formed,” he said.
