MAZATLAN. – The restaurant sector of Mazatlán is celebrating because at the national level diners will be allowed to smoke in establishments.

In Mazatlán there are two organizations representing restaurants, one is the National Chamber of the Restaurant and Seasoned Food Industry, Canirac, and the other is the National Gastronomic Council of Mazatlán, Conagam.

The president of Canirac in Mazatlán, Erick Mandujano Caro, commented that they are preparing all the documentation so that the establishments are ready and, in the case of any event, they are supported with the amparo in hand physically in their businesses, in which it dictates that smoking and carrying out said activity in their affiliated establishments is possible.

“Right now, we are in the process of printing all the information so that we can send it to them, and they have it as it is as an amparo or protection. It is a document that has to be physically in the branches”, pointed out Mandujano Caro.

He mentioned that this comes to do something for which they have been fighting since January, the month in which the Anti-Tobacco Law came into force to prohibit smoking inside places, even when there were terraces or open areas.

The leader stated that one of the places where the news is best received are bars or nightclubs.

He accepted that since the Anti-Tobacco Law came into force, many businesses saw their income decrease.

On the other hand, the National Gastronomic Council of Mazatlán (Conagam), stated through its general secretary, Roberto Osuna Valdez, that said body has not filed any complaint regarding the rules for the elimination of smoking areas in restaurants, bars, party halls, hotels, shopping centers or other establishments affiliated with them.

He stressed that they have complied with the provision that came into force on January 15 of this year and their members are even prepared to receive any type of operation related to the issue.

“We have no complaints, no one has stated that they have had an inspector or someone to go and check on the issue of smokers. Until now we have no complaints, the union members have done things as they have asked us, as they should be, that is why we have not given ourselves the task of filing an amparo ”, he stated.

Osuna Valdez indicated that they respect the decision that Canirac made when taking refuge against said decree, and pointed out that they have their reasons. He assured that they will have to analyze the situation well if they seek any protection, although he does not see it as necessary.

Lastly, he was clear in saying that after the pandemic, people learned to comply with many health measures, and it is the diners themselves who respect all the signs in restaurants.
