The World Student Taekwondo Championship is inaugurated in Mazatlán

The Lobodome of the Autonomous University of Durango will host the competition in which more than a thousand participants from 12 different countries will participate

MAZATLAN. – International events continue to arrive at the port, on this occasion the inauguration of the Taekwondo World School Championship was held, carried out with the support of the Government of Sinaloa and the Municipal Government of Mazatlán.

At the ceremony were present Edgar González, Municipal President of Mazatlán; Laurent Petrinka, president of the International Federation of School Sports; José Martín Sánchez Tenorio, president of the Mexican Federation of School Sports.

«To the young athletes, welcome, I am very pleased that the sport is coming to Mazatlan, because this type of event makes it a reference within school sports, it leaves a precedent for what can be done through these sports facilities. », expressed González Zatarain.

The opening ceremony was also attended by Ricardo Velarde, Undersecretary of Tourism of Sinaloa; Julio César Cascajares Ramírez, director of the Sinaloan Institute of Physical Culture and Sports; as well as Fabiola Judith Verde Rosas, director of the Municipal Sports Institute.

The civic act was in charge of the escort and war band of the José Vasconcelos High School, later the Mayor, Edgar González, gave the welcoming words, while, together with Petrinka, he officially inaugurated the contest.

The taekowndoíns were sworn in by Javier James Dorantes and Danna Mayrin Flores Zapata, while the judges were sworn in by Aline Guadarrama Noguera and Andrés Lemus Urzúa.

The contest will take place from June 19 to 23, with the participation of more than a thousand taekowndoins, from 12 different countries, at the Lobodome of the UAD.

The event is of double importance for Mazatlán, since the World School Sports Forum 2023 will be held alongside the World Championship.
