Mexico-Tenochtitlan and the axolotl ‘decorate’ new 50 peso bill

The new currency has security features, including fluorescent signs, touch-sensitive reliefs and a transparent window.

The Bank of Mexico presented this Thursday the new 50 peso bill which will be available from this October 28.

This new paper money has the axolotl as effigies and on its obverse it represents the historical period of Ancient Mexico.

“The vignette or main motif of the composition consists of a fragment from the back of the monolith called ‘Teocalli De la Guerra Sagrada’, which shows an eagle perched on a cactus with the ‘Atl tlachinolli’ in its beak. In the background, you can see a representation of the city of Tenochtitlan, based on a part of Diego Rivera’s mural, located in the National Palace in Mexico City, ”said Banxico.

The reverse illustrates the ecosystem of rivers and lakes with the axolotl and corn in Xochimilco, surrounded by chinampas, corn fields and ahuejote trees.

It has security features such as touch-sensitive reliefs, a multi-color designation, an element that changes color and a transparent window.

The new banknote is part of the G family, which includes an update of the 20, 50, 100, 200, and 1000 pesos banknotes and whose objective is to commemorate new historical passages in our country.
