90 percent of its income depended on the arrival of cruise ships at the port and the State Government has not turned to see them in the middle of the crisis
Mazatlán, Sinaloa.- The lack of cruise ships in Mazatlán has caused severe economic damages for those who work as tourist guides in the port, said Melesio Omar Quintero, president of the Association of Tourist Guides “Rafael Buelna” in Mazatlan.
He pointed out that 90 percent of the income they received depended on the cruise ships that arrived, which is why, since March, they have been forced to seek new jobs that allow them to continue bringing sustenance to their homes.
“We have been inactive for more than 6 months, right now what we are doing is that we are dedicating ourselves to other things, to other activities. With the reopening of July 1, we have not had much activity, practically zero, we are hopeful that, in this month that the season for Americans and Canadians begins, we can get a job, “he said.
He stated that in these times of crisis and pandemic, the State Government has not turned to see them nor has they been offered any support to survive, since only the Municipal Government has provided them with food supply, financial support and the possibility of a loan granted by the Federal Government.
“We urge the (state) Government to turn to the tourist guides because we had no support of any kind. We were left to our own devices. They have not given us anything, they were pure promises and they did not support us ”, he concluded.
