The Veracruz Congress rejected the reform of 52 articles of the Civil Code that sought to establish formal union between people of the same sex, since it was indicated that the natural family should be respected.
It was in this Thursday’s session that the Political Coordination Board of Congress no longer included such reform that was promoted by local deputy Monica Robles Barajas, since March last year.
Some of the points of this reform included the freedom for people of the same sex to decide the surnames of their children, their formal union, the right to alimony, express divorce, to name a few.
Thanks to these issues being addressed in today’s session, there were citizens belonging to different organizations that protested outside the local Congress against the legalization of equal marriage.
“I do not agree,” “Traitor liars,” “We do not want reform,” said some banners carried by the protesters.
For his part, Deputy Jorge Moreno Salinas, secretary of the Board of Directors of the Veracruz Congress, told the media and the Protestants that he is in favor of the family.
“What nature does not give, cannot be granted by a code. The marriage must be between a man and a woman, ”said the PRI.
While deputy Gonzalo Guízar Valladares said that all people have the right to express themselves and that “it is about political forces willing to listen to this movement, in which we agree,” he said, while those present began a club “no to reform, not to reform, not to reform ”.
In turn, the deputy Monica Robledo Barajas wrote on her Twitter account a questioning of the deputies who support the aforementioned demonstration against gay marriage.
“Have you already forgotten that by protesting as deputies we commit ourselves to comply with and enforce the Political Constitution of Veracruz, and thereby respect the human right to non-discrimination and the secular principle of the Mexican State?”
