Mexico is the main consumer of eggs in the world

2003

Mexico ranks as the fourth-largest producer of eggs worldwide, as it provides one in every 27 eggs produced in the world

The entities that stand out for their greater production are Jalisco, Puebla, and Sonora

The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (Sader) stressed that Mexico is the main consumer of eggs, and with the objective of covering national demand, 2.77 million tons are produced every year.

The agency stressed that the above allows this activity to be profitable for all national producers, however, Jalisco, Puebla, and Sonora are the entities that stand out for their greatest contribution to total production.

In its magazine Mexican Agriculture, the Sader explained that the production of egg for consumption is one of the most important activities in the country, both in the economic field and in consumption.

Annually, a Mexican eats 345 eggs, the equivalent of about 226 kilos, which makes it the country where this product is most consumed, he said.

This activity, he said, accounts for the existence of 202 million birds for egg production, better known as laying birds, throughout the country.

In this way, Mexico ranks as the fourth-largest producer of eggs worldwide, providing one in every 27 eggs produced in the world; In the country, there is a large number of small and medium producers dedicated, through backyard poultry farming, to egg production.
