Mexico’s new national police force yet to receive promised UN training

Human rights training is yet to take place for Mexico’s new National Guard forces.

Mexico has deployed thousands of its newly created security force – called the National Guard – to tighten the country’s borders and fight crime.

But the force is controversial in the wake of past incidents of human rights abuse involving the armed forces – which make up the majority of the National Guard.

Mexico’s government promised the United Nations will help train them on how to respect the human rights of the civilian population.

But three months since the agreement that has not happened yet.
