Despite the acts of violence that occurred Tuesday and Wednesday night in Mazatlán, the State Tourism Secretariat dismissed concerns that these incidents are affecting the port’s image as a tourist destination.

The head of the Secretariat, Mireya Sosa Osuna, asserted that the sector continues to show positive indicators and that there is full confidence in the security work being carried out by the authorities.

When asked if the recent violence could impact visitor arrivals, the official maintained that institutional coordination on security matters has allowed for a steady flow of tourists.

“We trust the authorities, we believe in the inter-institutional work being done, we trust that they are doing it correctly; there are operations underway, and there is security in tourism matters,” she affirmed.

Sosa Osuna emphasized that the results speak for themselves, with an increase in air routes and international tourism.

“We are receiving cruise ships; we have eight routes from Canada, and with the opening of five new routes to Mazatlán, we’ve seen a 10.5% increase in the meetings industry segment. We’ve already received 89 cruise ships this year,” he explained.

“We have very good numbers and are very optimistic that we will continue to see this economic growth, especially with tourism in Mazatlán and throughout the state of Sinaloa,” he concluded.

While authorities continue to reinforce security operations, the Ministry of Tourism is confident that the perception of the destination will not be affected and that the year will end with positive figures for the sector.
