The strong waves caused by Hurricane Priscilla invaded the coastal promenade this Wednesday morning, also causing damage to beach restaurants and buildings located along the beachfront.
At the same time, people on the boardwalk took advantage of this situation to take selfies and videos.
Municipal Civil Protection Coordinator Óscar Roberto Osuna Tirado announced that between 10 and 15 thatched roofs were damaged, and they have closed access to the promenade because the beach has disappeared.
“We are closing access to the thatched roofs on the promenade as a precautionary measure. We are quantifying the damage; there are 10 to 15 thatched roofs damaged,” he said.
The intense storm surge continues to batter coastal areas, weakening foundations and sweeping away wooden and palm structures that cannot withstand the force of the sea.
There are approximately 22 seafood restaurants located from Avenida del Mar to Cerritos, which are visited primarily by tourists arriving at the destination.
Osuna Tirado indicated that all beaches are closed to swimmers, from Avenida del Mar to Cerritos.
Civil Protection personnel remain in the area to secure the area and evacuate objects and furniture that remain there, to avoid risks to the population.
In several sections of Avenida del Mar, there is sand that the waves dragged along when they invaded the road.
