FGR searches farm where El Mayo was allegedly kidnapped and Melesio Cuen was murdered

CULIACAN, SINALOA (September 1, 2024).- The San Julián farm, where Ismael Zambada García was allegedly kidnapped by El Chapo’s son Joaquín Guzmán López, and where it is believed that Héctor Melesio Cuen Ojeda was murdered, is being searched by personnel from the Attorney General’s Office.

El Mayo and Joaquín Guzmán were arrested in the United States last Thursday, July 25. Later, El Mayo wrote a letter in which he said he had been the victim of kidnapping by the son of his godfather, Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzmán. And that he thought he was attending a meeting with Sinaloa Goernor Rocha Moya.

Based on El Mayo’s story, the FGR identified the San Julián farm and a landing strip located in the community of Campo Berlín as the place where he was kidnapped and the site from which the plane that took them to the United States took off.

This investigation is linked to the murder of the Sinaloa politician Héctor Melesio Cuén Ojeda. Ismael Zambada stated that prior to his kidnapping, he had a meeting with the former rector of the Autonomous University of Sinaloa at the aforementioned property.

The FGR’s conjectures are that Cuén was murdered at this same site, ruling out the attempted carjacking that supposedly occurred at a gas station north of Culiacán. This was the main line of investigation of the local prosecutor’s office.

For 10 days, FGR elements had been guarding the properties, so it was presumed that they were waiting for a court order and on Saturday, August 31, they were seen entering the track and the property.
