Tourists in Mazatlán feel ‘harassed’ by TOO MANY street vendors, according to a survey.

According to a survey presented by the National Chamber of Commerce, Services, and Tourism of Mazatlán through its president, Francisca Cázarez, tourists complained about the overwhelming number of street vendors.

The president of Canaco Mazatlán said the survey was conducted from July 19 to August 10, revealing that tourists feel uncomfortable with so many vendors. Cázarez expressed confusion about where so many independent agents came from in the different beach areas of Mazatlán.

Regarding the proliferation of vendors, she called on authorities to regulate this sector, considering it unfair competition for established merchants who generate employment year-round.

Although there is no exact number of vendors currently in Mazatlán with permits to offer their products, Francisca Cázarez reiterated that it is concerning that tourists feel uncomfortable with the situation.

“It is something that bothers tourists a lot. When asked in a survey, visitors say: ‘And now what do you want to sell me?’ in a very annoyed tone. We are talking about offerings ranging from food to tourist passes and other products,” she explained.
