Admission is free! “El Clavadista”, a look at the artists of flight comes to the Teatro de El Cid

The documentary “El Clavadista”, directed by Mazatlan natives Fernando Alarriba and Daniel Reyes, and produced through Nextia Creative Platform, will be shown this Thursday, August 8 at 7:00 p.m. at the El Cid Theater for free.

The presentation of this work has the support of the Municipal Institute of Culture, Tourism and Art of Mazatlan, El Cid Hotels, and the Association of Hotels and Tourism Companies of Mazatlan.

Enrique Vega Ayala, director of Planning for Culture Mazatlan, said that the audiovisual work highlights the human side of the “artists of flight”, who for more than 50 years have become an icon of local culture and a symbol of identity for Mazatlan residents.

“El Clavadista is a fundamental symbol for modern Mazatlan. Without the diver, or the pneumonia, or the transformation that the Mazatlan International Carnival underwent from the 1950s onwards, cultural tourism would not make much sense today,” said Vega Ayala.

He commented that each flight of the divers is a unique spectacle, a very important human creation of a challenge that the young people of the 1950s and 1960s knew how to structure in such a way that it was interesting for them as a risk, a factor of expression of their courage, but also for those who have been able to observe them since that time as an element that stands out in an extraordinary setting.

For the filmmakers, this free function is an ideal opportunity for tourists and locals to get to know in depth the history of “El Clavadista”, an attraction that is part of Mazatlan’s cultural heritage. In addition, in the documentary they will discover how this tradition began, the difficulties that the divers live and the deep meaning that the sea has for these men who earn their living facing death.

Fernando Alarriba, the creator of the documentary, stressed that this is an independent and self-sustaining project that is also available on www.elclavadista.com, a website, and for a fee of 20 pesos, people will be able to see the documentary and access special content that expands on the history of this production.

This August 8, at 7:00 p.m., “El Clavadista” will be screened at the El Cid Hotel Theater with the original audio in Spanish and with English subtitles. Admission is free.
