Mazatlán is expecting the arrival of about 120,000 visitors who will be able to see the solar eclipse on the upcoming April 8th.

The countdown is underway for the sighting of the solar eclipse on Monday, April 8th, with the arrival of about 120,000 visitors expected, and Mazatlán and the surrounding areas, where it will be seen in its greatest splendor, are ready to receive them, highlighted Ricardo Velarde Cárdenas, the head of the Tourism Secretary’s office.

According to assessments by NASA and the National Eclipse Committee, both the port of Mazatlán and neighboring municipalities will become the ideal sites to witness the majesty of the eclipse, added the state official.

It is expected that this weekend the thousands of astronomy followers, both national and foreign, will start to arrive, so a full house in the hotels is anticipated, he expressed.

The state of Sinaloa has around 26,000 hotel rooms, and more than 70 percent are concentrated in Mazatlán.

The head of Sectur stated that with the eclipse, the vacations in Mazatlán were extended, taking into account that there were days off for Holy Week and Easter Week.

For now, the head of Sectur specified, different events have been scheduled in this city, where local astronomers and those from various parts of the country and abroad, such as NASA, which will be broadcasting, will gather: the Malecón will become one of the best points for observation, considering its length, and it will remain closed to traffic from Olas Altas to Valentino.

In the Parque de las Ciudades Hermanas, the concert “Eclipse Mazatlán, with Symphonic Vision” will take place, featuring live music about the planets, videos on the progress of the eclipse, and an explanation of the phenomenon.

Also considered were El Observatorio, Glorieta Sánchez Taboada, the Mazatlán letters (Valentinos), and the Lighthouse will have space for 1,600 people; 600 will be on the upper part and 1,000 on the breakwater.

He also informed that in the archaeological zone of Las Labradas, in the municipality of San Ignacio, a camp was organized in coordination with the National Institute of Anthropology and History.
