The Undersecretary of Tourism Promotion and Business Industry of the SECTUR pointed out that Sinaloa is going to position itself within the destinations with the most congresses and conventions in the country.

MAZATLÁN.- For Ricardo Velarde Cárdenas, Undersecretary of Tourism Promotion and Business Industry, the investment of the World Trade Center to be built in Mazatlán will mark a before and after in business tourism, by becoming an essential attraction that will infect more investors in the destination.

“It is going to give extra value to the municipality in an important way, I think that all these investments are generating confidence to be able to attract this,” he commented.

The important thing here, he added, is to increase and attract tourism during the week and catch it throughout the year to generate dynamism, not only during the weekends, since those are already well consolidated.

Let us remember that in September 2022 the construction of the World Trade Center in Mazatlán was officially announced, which will be carried out with an investment of approximately 200 million dollars, which will begin in 2024 with a comprehensive complex and whose goal will be developed in at least five years.

They want Sinaloa to be a benchmark in business tourism

One of the challenges that Sinaloa has is to increase and strengthen the segment of congresses and conventions to position itself as an ideal, competitive, and higher income destination, said Ricardo Velarde Cárdenas.

The Undersecretary of Tourism Promotion and Business Industry of the Ministry of Tourism mentioned that they are already working on a mapping that will help them identify the market niches for each municipality, first in those that already have infrastructure for business tourism such as Ahome, Culiacan and Mazatlan.

“There is a lot to do, despite being an industry that has greatly benefited the destination, there is a lot to do in the 18 municipalities. The most important thing is to make the measurement, strengthen the issue of the committees, in Mazatlán there was one, but it was not strengthened within the government authorities,” he declared.

Velarde Cárdenas explained that, for example, in Mazatlán they seek to attract congresses and conventions of more than a thousand people, that in addition to the property, which they already have, the beach is sold as an attraction, but, in the case of Culiacán, they are in search of sports conventions and primary sectors with a capacity of 300 people.

“The capital wants to become one of the strongest places in the generation of the meetings industry; The issue of business tourism is very important for them, and they will come to pay for it, which is the Marriot hotel, the first 5-star hotel in the city, with this it gives us the facility to generate many more events of this type of activity” , said.

Currently, he added, Culiacán is in the process of adapting an infrastructure that allows hosting hundreds of people to talk about a single topic and consolidates itself as an exclusive space for business tourism.
