After 12 years, the port recovers the Guinness Record with 1701.5 kilograms of shrimp

After 10 hours of work, Mazatlán achieved the Guinness Record for the largest shrimp cocktail in the world.

Volunteers, cooks, Tourism and Gastronomy students from the Autonomous University of Sinaloa were the ones who worked together with the chefs in the preparation of the cocktail, starting this Friday morning, with a defrosting and cooking process, to reach the goal.

The president of the Tres Islas Hotel Association, José Ramón Manguart Sánchez, highlighted that in Mazatlán has the richest shrimp in the world, and with this new Record Guinness it will make it known internationally.

The largest cocktail in the world was distributed among the hundreds of locals and tourists who attended the Mazatlán Convention Center.

International standard recipe

To break the mark and write Mazatlan again in the Guinness Book of Records, as it did in 2011 with its Coctelazo, the original recipe was changed to stick to the international standard with orange, pineapple and cold.

Susana Reyes, official Guinness World Record certifier, revealed that the recipe they had to stick to is the following: shrimp, white onion, tomato, oregano, garlic, lemon, pepper, salt, ketchup, orange juice, lemon juice, pineapple, Tabasco sauce and Worcestershire sauce.

In addition, she pointed out that a distribution plan was guaranteed, since Guinness requires that there be no waste of the finished product and, above all, that hygiene be guaranteed.

There were also verifications regarding the container to be handled, which had to be similar to a real scale that supports the weight, previously sanitized.

The first record for the largest shrimp cocktail in the world was set for the first time by the United Kingdom, with 99 kilograms in 2009 and until now held by Denver, Colorado, United States, with 1,485 kilograms registered in 2022.
