Currently the work has an overall progress of 80 percent, so that vehicles can soon circulate on the federal highway Mexico 15, said the secretary José Luis Zavala

Culiacan, Sinaloa. – The Secretary of Public Works of the State Government, José Luis Zavala Cabanillas, reported that the construction of the new El Quelite bridge will be completed in the first days of February, since there was a delay during the year-end holidays, because the Ministry of Communications and Transportation and the National Guard decided to stop the transportation of the beams, which measure 40 meters, and the vehicle that moves them only runs at seven kilometers per hour, which put motorists in danger.

He explained that only two girders remain to be placed, of the five that fell, and they are already pouring concrete in to close all the gaps in the bridge, as well as the pavements, with the work currently having a global progress of 80 percent, so that they can soon be able to open vehicles circulation on the federal highway Mexico 15.

José Luis Zavala clarified that this collapse of the El Quelite bridge did not represent an expense for the state government, since the construction company charged the cost of the 5 damaged beams, with a value close to 500,000 pesos for each one, that is, little more than 2 million 500 thousand pesos.

Background of the work of the El Quelite bridge

At the end of August 2021, the torrential rains caused by tropical storm “Nora” demolished the bridge, and it subsequently collapsed on the afternoon of Sunday, December 4, 2022 with the fall of five beams; The new work that began in June of the same year had made significant progress and was scheduled to be inaugurated at the end of December, or the next month of January 2023, which did not happen.
