They trust that next year they will be able to cover all the requirements; at the moment they are working.

MAZATLÁN.- Mazatlán will seek to recover the certification of two beaches next year, as reported by Luis Fernando Ortiz Genis, head of the Beach Operator and Administrator (OAP).

Let us remember that the Luna Bonita and Estrella de Mar beaches lost their Clean Beach certification in the recreational category. These obtained their certification for the first time in early 2020 before the Mexican Institute for Standardization and Certification.

The municipal official indicated that the objective is to obtain the badge again, which is why they are working permanently to keep the aforementioned areas clean and in order. In fact, he reported that in Luna Bonita there are already plant personnel who are in charge of supervising that the population does not leave garbage.

Another of the factors that will benefit said beach will be the placement of equipment such as garbage containers and lifeguard towers, items that are qualified when awarding a distinction in the recreational category.

“We are thinking of recovering them, but it would be next year; in what is Luna Bonita we already have at least one assistant serving the area every day and, well, equipment is also coming soon on the subject of garbage container stations, lifeguard towers and signage, which is very important.”

Certified Beaches

Mazatlan has two beaches with a white flag: El Verde Camacho and Gaviotas, as well as two with Platinum certification, which was given for the first time earlier this year to Pinitos and to the sections located in front of the Park Inn hotels, with a length of 20 meters, and Holiday Inn, with 60 meters.

This “Platinum Beach” distinction is also based on the Mexican standard NOM 120, but with more flexible rules that allow gradually scaling compliance with indicators grouped into four modalities: cleanliness, safety, infrastructure and water quality, which are evaluated separately. .

Once they have fulfilled all the indicators, they will have the opportunity to process the white flag certified beach badge.
