Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzmán requested a new trial from the New York Federal Court.

He is also demanding his sentence be annulled or that he be allowed to present his arguments at a hearing, local media reported.

The former leader of the Sinaloa Cartel is serving a sentence in the SuperMax maximum security prison in Colorado, a sentence that was confirmed this year by the Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit in New York.

His lawyers argue that there were legal errors, that his confinement prevented the correct preparation of the defense, and that the juries did not fulfill their promise not to follow the trial through the media.
