Mazatlán, Sinaloa.- From October 11 to 14, the Sinaloa Tourism Secretariat will receive in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, the post that will accredit Mazatlán as the venue for the international meeting of the Florida and Caribbean Cruise Association (FCCA ).
The event expects to bring together 100 high-level executives within the cruise industry worldwide and will be held in Mazatlan in October 2023.
The head of the Sinaloa Sectur, Rosario Torres Noriega, highlighted the importance of the FCCA meeting for the cruise tourism industry.
“Next week we are going to Santo Domingo, where we are going to receive the post for the FCCA meeting in Mazatlan, this meeting is of great importance for the cruise sector, ” he said.
Torres Noriega commented that in Mazatlán there is an important reactivation since the number of cruise passengers who have arrived so far in 2022 exceeds the sum of arrivals from last year and 2020.
He emphasized that 2022 will close with high expectations for the cruise industry in Mazatlan, since it is expected that by the end of the year the number of ships visiting the port will rise to 145.
In 2018 Mazatlan had the best year in the arrival of shipping tourism with 525 thousand cruise passengers, while this 2022, with everything and a pandemic, it is estimated to close with 280 thousand.
Topolobampo Cruises
Regarding the cruise industry in northern Sinaloa, the head of the Sectur announced that she met with the municipal president of Ahome, Gerardo Vargas Landeros, to inform him of the actions carried out before the main executives of the international shipping industry, aimed at restarting the arrival of cruise ships to Topolobampo.
“Taking advantage of the good relationship that we have with the executives of the shipping companies, we invited the mayor of Ahome, and someone will go on his behalf, because we have had some progress in that regard, and we want to finalize things,” he concluded.
