Mazatlán, Sinaloa.- In Mexico, there is a lack of culture for organ donation and people should know that it is very important to do so to save the lives of others, highlighted the president of Fundación Ale Mazatlán IAP, Verónica Olvera Carrasco.

On the National Day for the Donation of Organs and Tissues for Transplant Purposes, he stated that since the Covid-19 pandemic began, organ transplants have not been carried out in the country and that it is expected that they can be carried out in Mazatlan next year. .

“In mid-2021, transplants began to open in some hospitals in large cities and here in Mazatlan the Sharp hospital could open now,” he said.

When holding a conference on what organ donation is, he commented that in Mazatlan there are around 400 people on hemodialysis .

“Many of them could be candidates for a kidney transplant, and we have three liver and one heart,” he said.

Olvera Carrasco added that there are currently more than 19,000 people on the waiting list nationwide, looking for organs in general; those in highest demand are the kidneys, followed by the liverheartpancreas and lungs .

donor card

The Ale IAP Foundation has a Donor Card that people can obtain in a module that is in the Sharp Hospital, in the Emergency area, where they talk about what organ donation is.

“The card is not a legal document that obliges them to do anything, it simply says what the person ‘s will is, and it can be covered, kept and discussed with the family, because in the end they are the one who donates the organs,” he concluded.
