AMLO extends the term to regularize foreign cars illegally in Mexico. Until when?

President AMLO extended the decree that allows the regularization of cars of foreign origin in Sinaloa and other states of the country, thus benefiting dozens of people who were delaying the process.

Mexico.- Since the beginning of 2022, the Government of Mexico announced the opening in the process of regularization of foreign vehicles, known as ” chocolate cars “. And, after authorizing 12 states of the Republic for said process, a deadline of September 20 was established. However, in the last hours, it was announced that President Andrés Manuel López Obrador extended this term until December 31.

Although the regularization of chocolate cars began several months ago, there are many people who have decided to leave the process until the last minute, so this week the appointments and the modules installed for this procedure have been saturated. Even according to estimates by organizations such as Onapafa, Condefa, and Feoss, only 11% of these foreign cars have been regularized so far.

In this sense, and just as the governor of Sinaloa, Ruben Rocha Moya, had predicted, AMLO has decided to extend the decree that allows the regularization of cars of foreign origin, an extension that will officially extend until December 31.

This decision gives the opportunity for thousands of people to come to the nearest point to carry out the regularization of their chocolate cars. And it is that, as indicated in article 1 of the Decree published in the Official Gazette of the Federation (DOF), this space will promote the regularization of used vehicles of foreign origin that are found in the states of Baja California, Baja California Sur, Chihuahua, Coahuila de Zaragoza, Durango, Jalisco, Michoacán de Ocampo, Nayarit, Nuevo León, Puebla, Sinaloa, Sonora, Tamaulipas, and Zacatecas.

Finally, it should be noted that the regularization of the so-called ‘chocolate cars’ refers to vehicles imported irregularly and without documentation, which would begin to be regularized from the 2016 model backwards. The cost of this procedure would be 2,500 pesos per use, although other charges may be submitted which would depend on each state and would be used for paving and related works.
