In 2020 and 2021 the national holidays were canceled as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.
MAZATLAN. – After two years of the COVID-19 pandemic, the traditional civic-military parade on September 16 returned to the Malecón to celebrate and honor those who began the fight for independence in Mexico 212 years ago.
The event, which was presided over by civil and military authorities, and began shortly after 08:00 a.m., led by Mayor Luis Guillermo Benitez Torres, Guillermo Albazán Bertoto, Chief of Staff of the Third Military Region, and Lucio Fernández Leon, Chief of the General Staff of the Fourth Naval Region.
Both the eighth infantry battalion of the third military region, and the fourth naval zone, deployed escorts and special groups where they showed their discipline and synchrony when marching and saluting before the box of honor.
The tour began on Gutiérrez Nájera Avenue and Del Mar Avenue, advancing north, passing by Hotel Hacienda where the municipal, state and federal authorities were located, until it culminated in De los Deportes Avenue, near Acuario Mazatlán.
Various contingents of Secondary and High Schools participated in the parade, who paid honor to the flag with their escorts and with the war bands.
Something that could not be missing and that the public already missed were the traditional folklore dances, performed by the students who were dressed for the occasion.
Due to COVID-19 protocols, only 15 educational institutions participated in this edition.
With this parade, the official patriotic celebrations that began last Thursday night with the traditional cry of Independence, on the esplanade of the Plazuela República, formally concluded.
