Mazatlán, Sinaloa.- With the aim of raising awareness among the population so that they stop using disposable products due to the pollution generated by the environment, municipal agencies carried out a cleaning day on the Olas Altas beach.

Personnel from the Department of Ecology and Environment, Operator and Administrator of Beaches of the Municipal Government and Jumapam, participated in the activity.

The office manager of the Department of Ecology and Environment, Míriam Isaraí Rodríguez Paniagua, said that when carrying out the awareness and cleaning day in the beach area, they detected that several restaurants have not migrated to using biodegradable products, and the largest problem you have is the use of disposables.

“The Styrofoam continues to contaminate us and it is what we have seen the most in this beach area. The cleaning in the area will be thorough because it is about microplastics.”

For his part, the director of the Operator and Administrator of Beaches, Luis Fernando Ortiz, said that cleanliness in beach areas is of the utmost importance to try to prevent Styrofoam and plastic from reaching the sea.

“On the issue of Styrofoam, we should try to avoid using them, in establishments it is a little more difficult because they are businesses, but we as people must go to businesses with our own glasses or containers that are reusable,” he said.

The Municipal Government, through Ecology and the Environment, together with the Beach Operator and Administrator, carries out various actions and programs that go hand in hand with raising people’s awareness.
