President López Obrador approves that Miguel Ángel Félix Gallardo, a Sinaloan drug trafficker imprisoned since 1989, has the benefit of house arrest.

The so-called ‘Boss of Bosses’, founder of the Guadalajara Cartel, obtained house arrest after presenting health problems.

Miguel Ángel Félix Gallardo, known as ‘The Boss of Bosses’, one of the founders of the Guadalajara Cartel, received the benefit of house arrest on Monday.

The judge granted him this measure after the drug trafficker, sentenced in 2017 to seven years in prison for the murder of DEA agent Enrique Camarena “El Kiki” Salazar, which occurred on February 7, 1985, presented health problems.

Just in December 2020, the capo’s defense had processed an amparo to request this benefit, which was finally granted.

Félix Gallardo, 76, was arrested in 1989 accused of drug trafficking and other crimes. Since then he has remained in the Puente Grande Prison, Jalisco.

Thirty-seven years after being arrested, in 2017, “The boss of bosses” was found guilty of committing the crime of qualified homicide, with premeditation and advantage, for which, in addition to spending more time in prison, he was sentenced to pay 20 million 810,000 pesos as compensation for the damage caused by the death of the agent and a pilot of Mexican nationality.

Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzmán was also detained in said prison, from where he escaped from prison for the first time in 2001.

In August 2021, Félix Gallardo gave an interview to Telemundo in which he assured that he has no hope of life or of being released, since his health condition was serious because he cannot walk and must “deal” with severe pneumonia. which has forced him to use oxygen, so he only awaits death.

When the amnesty proposed by President Andrés Manuel López Obrador was questioned for inmates over 75 years of age to be released from prison, the capo said he was not interested in it, although he sent good wishes to the federal president.

Days later, López Obrador thanked the former leader of the Guadalajara Cartel for the good wishes to his government and assured that if he was in a position to obtain his freedom, he would not object.

“El Narco de Narcos”, recaptured

Caro Quintero was captured last Friday, July 15, in the San Simón region, in the municipality of Choix in Sinaloa; after remaining a fugitive from justice since 2013, when he was released during the early hours of August 13, when a court ordered his release, after 28 years in prison, that is, 12 years before serving his sentence.

That early morning bothered the United States since it was required to judge him for the cruel murder of “Kiki” Camarena, who, in addition to being tortured, was buried alive, according to various reports. 

Little more than 8 years later, elements of the Secretary of the Navy found his location and the arrest was carried out. That same Friday, Caro Quintero was transferred to the Altiplano Prison in the State of Mexico, where he was notified that the United States had requested his extradition.

“Don Neto” released

“Don Neto”, as Ernesto Fonseca is called, is one of the founders of the Guadalajara Cartel, considered to be one of the first Mexican cartels that, after the capture of its main leaders, fragmented to give way to criminal organizations such as the Cartel of Sinaloa and the Arellano Félix Cartel. 

Fonseca Carrillo had been sentenced to 40 years in prison for the murder and kidnapping of Camarena and Alfredo Zavala Avelar. After 30 years, the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation (SCJN) granted him house arrest, suffering from various ailments, including colon cancer, rheumatism, hiatal hernia, and hypertension, among others, and being on the verge of losing sight. 

“Don Neto” was sent to an address located in a luxury residence in Atizapán de Zaragoza, in the State of Mexico; with a bracelet. However, in 2017 he achieved total freedom. 

“The Boss of Bosses”:
Miguel Ángel Félix Gallardo, alias “the Boss of bosses,” began his career in crime in the 1970s, and is considered the first Mexican capo to traffic cocaine in the United States.

He is currently in the Puente Grande prison, Jalisco and in an interview for Telemundo, he showed his difficulties in walking, seeing, and hearing. He has requested 3 amperes to end his sentence in house arrest, which has been previously rejected by the courts.
